Practical business workshops and courses

Our ethos at The Farnham Hub is to provide business courses and workshops that give our members real practical skills and tools. Many of us have been on business courses that regurgitate statistics and information that we were probably already aware of, and tell us to go away and use it: teaching grandmother to suck eggs? Instead we aim to give our members real value by running courses that not only tell you what to do, why you should do it, but also how to do it.

Our most recent workshop delivered exactly that: good practical advice and skills. Suzanne Bellenger of The Training Post provides social media training for large and small companies, as well as free training for Not For Profit organisations. Her two hour workshop looked briefly at the reasons for having a Facebook page (all the attendees had already grasped the importance of this), before getting down to the nitty gritty of how to get the most out of your Facebook page.

With 32,200,000 people in the UK on Facebook, 61% of all UK internet users, a Facebook business page seems like a no-brainer. However, if you don’t manage it and don’t know how to use it, it can become a liability. Suzanne’s workshop took us through the basics of Facebook and addressed specific problems attendees had encountered.

With a quick look at Facebook’s Edgerank algorithm, it became clear to Hub members that running a Facebook page takes quite some commitment: no wonder so many social media consultants are springing up everywhere! But with Suzanne’s useful tips and shortcuts we will all be posting, sharing and commenting with a much better idea of what we’re doing. Even a Facebook addict like myself learnt a few new tricks!

Richard Eccles of Social-UK said of this workshop:

“Very informative and was reminded of some important basics. Thank you.”

Next business course: The Confident Entrepreneur Workout

Our next course comes from positive psychologist Nic Malcomson: The Confident Entrepreneur Workout. This four hour session aims to help business owners:

  • Identify the psychological blocks that prevent you from moving forward (with your business).
  • Reduce your level of internal conflict.
  • Align your behaviour with your intentions.
  • Confidently take the steps necessary for your success.

You can find out more about Nic’s approach by watching the following clip (created for PitchFest KPI 9):
